T.G. Narayanan Memorial Lecture on Social Deprivation, August 18, 2017

Farmer & Activist Vijay Mohanlal Jawandhia delivered the Sixth T.G. Narayanan Memorial Lecture on Social Deprivation titled “The Non-Viability of Agriculture”. According to Mr. Jawandhia, the prevailing system that exploits labour at the expense of higher and cheaper production is responsible for poverty. Its economic benefits reach the cities while the villages remain poor. For the farmers, Green Revolution merely increased the yield and did not improve their income. In this condition, the Government of India must offer subsidies to the farmers if it wants to have an all-inclusive development. At the very least, the policy-makers should enact policies that helps farmers to live like human beings.
